Children

Tulips

Welcome to Tulips!

We are a lovely bunch of Year 1 and 2 children. There are 25 children in our class.

Mrs Okiwe is the class teacher.

This year, we have introduced Continuous Provision in our classrooms, similar to the approach used in the Foundation Stage. When children are not working directly with the teacher, they will have a range of challenges to complete throughout the week that are linked to their learning. You may have heard your child talking about 'Gem Challenges', which is what we call these activities.

Through this Continuous Provision approach, children can practise, apply and deepen their learning independently, helping them to develop confidence and resilience in their work.

  • PE is every Monday afternoon (with Mrs Okiwe) and also, on Friday afternoons (with Mr Yates). Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE clothing and trainers.
  • Please bring a coat every day even if the weather is sunny.
  • Please ensure your child has a pair of wellies in school for Foresters on a Thursday afternoon (Foresters for Tulips is just for the first half of the autumn term).
  • Water bottles should be brought to school every day.
  • Make sure all clothing, water bottles and book bags are clearly named with your child's name.
  • Children are given a Rhino Readers reading book to read at home. Please ensure their reading book is in school every day. Please hear your child read at least three times a week and sign their reading diary.
  • In Tulips, there is no 'Show and Tell', so please do not send your child with toys into school. If your child wants to bring in a certificate, medal or trophy from an activity outside of school, e.g. Dance certificate, swimming medal, then please send them in. It is lovely to learn about the children's hobbies and achievements outside of school and is a great opportunity to celebrate individuals.

  • Phonic words to practise at home

    Published 24/09/26, by Jane Okiwe

In the Autumn term, children are sent home with spellings linked to their phonics learning, to practise at home. These spellings will not be tested in school however it would be great if parents could practise the words with their child, as it will really support them with their phonics, reading and English learning.
