Computing

The national curriculum for computing aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation

  • can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems

  • can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems

  • are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.

Here at St Michael's we have 30 Chromebooks per phase, to ensure that every pupil has access to their own device. These may be used during specific computing teaching sessions, but are also incorporated into cross-curricular work. We subscribe to Purple Mash and use their comprehensive scheme of learning to deliver our Computing lessons.

Esafety is an important part of Computing and we teach the children the skills to stay safe in a Computing unit each year dedicated to Online Safety. We teach children the SMART rules which you can find more about here https://www.childnet.com/young-people/primary/get-smart

Please find a link to National Online Safety website which has lots of really useful reading for parents to ensure children are safe using the internet out of school and has a lot of information on the different social platforms that children are using https://nationalonlinesafety.com/resources/platform-guides/
